| Customer Reviews: Great Laptop. Great Price. January 29, 2010 Pat (Salem Oregon) I have bought this laptop from Frys a few months ago. and in those few months i was transformed into a Toshiba Fanboy because of it. It ran perfectly. I had to call customer support a few times, but they were always problems i caused by my constant computer testing. Because i am a tech guy i use alot of programs that require some "Playing" with. But they were easily solved. The Windows Vista it came with was an Ok OS on it, I upgraded to Windows 7 a month ago and now this laptop runs about as fast as my friends "Super" computer on windows Vista. I love the 4GB RAM, and the 2.2 Duo Core AMD Turion Processor. Although it's graphics are in the mid range, it is better than the Intel Integrated GMAs that are usually used on every other laptop. It allows me to play Halo custom edition at High Settings, and Halo 2 at Medium settings. I can even play most of those higher end games on Medium settings with few to no hiccups at all (depending on what else i have running. The only downside of this laptop is, It has a 18.4" screen so it's not as mobile as other laptops. It's mobile enough to take from one house to another. But not small enough to take it to coffee shops and such. Overall I would rate it a 5/5. and i reccommend this laptop to everyone that wants to run games, and do countless other tasks. all with a mobile PC.
good for the price, but the CPU is a bottle neck November 6, 2009 Sun Huan (PA USA) I purchased this computer because my thinkpad T61's screen had become dim after 18 months of use. I did all kinds of searches for about 1 week then finally bought the Toshiba P505D.
The computer has a large screen with pretty good brightness, Toshiba describes it as "True Bright", I think it's bright, but not "very" bright, it probably is around 200nit-250nit, but it won't give you "stunning" visual experience. Anyway, it's a lot more comfortable to staring the screen for 2hours than the old Thinkpad T61's.
The sound card of this computer is terrible,if you listen to FLAC through the audio jack using a headphone like the Sennheiser HD 280 pro, you would find a lot of mids in the music are lost, and of crouse, many details are lost as well, if I have to use headphones on this computer I would use a USB soundcard instead.
The speaker is very loud, and contains a lot of distorted bass, I think there is a 6dB boost in the 60HZ to 100 HZ range, I don't quite mind the distortion though, because it's not very possible to find a speaker as loud as this in a 15.4" or 14.1" model from any manufacture in the market.
And the performance, the P505D is noticeable slower than my Thinkpad T61(2.0GHZ T7300, 3GB RAM, 100GB

What a great Toshiba laptop for the price. It's fast, clear picture and it's easy to use. I love the way the touch pad for the mouse is, it works great. And the screen size, it's great for watching DVD movies on vacation! Didn't want to buy a DVD player that was small and convenient just to take on vacation, so after purchasing this laptop, I took it on vacation and the picture was fantastic 18 inch screen and the sound was the greatest ever. I even used the headphones and was totally surprised at how fantastic this sounded. Only bad thing is I'd rather have been able to get this in Purple.
Constantly crashes or BSOD during boot September 11, 2009 G. Austin (Hemet, CA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I replaced a 3+ year old Toshiba 15.4" Centrino laptop that has performed perfectly with this upgrade. Because of the excellent performance of the 1st Toshiba product I only considered Toshiba. I am running the same programs and USB devices that ran without problems on my older Toshiba laptop. However, this laptop has crashed or gone BSOD every day since I transferred programs and settings. The problem seems to be related to the USB ports. Toshiba support offers only to "power cycle". It will run without problems usually after two boot attempts. On a positive note the screen and sound are commendable for a laptop in this price range. I will continue to reinstall the Toshiba drivers and eliminate start-up services to attempt to correct before I return to Amazon and purchase another brand. I would not recommend this laptop based on my experience. UPDATE: 9/19/2009. : I have corrected the freeze-ups and BSOD on boot by not attaching an USB Sprint modem until the entire boot process is finished and the Sprint smart-view application has loaded. I did not have this issue on old laptop or a desktop running Vista Home. I am more satisfied with the laptop despite the small inconvenience during start-up.
Excellent value August 23, 2009 Laurie (NJ) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I paid $699 for this laptop. The 18.4" screen was more important to me than a fast processor. Beautifully designed inside and out. Good speakers for a laptop. Excellent value. Will not disappoint unless you're looking for a high-end gaming machine. I paid twice as much for my last Toshiba laptop two years ago (just gave it to a friend) and it doesn't come close to this one. Love it.
